U8's Update 03/10/2011
A big welcome to our two new players this week, Daniel and Ben. We look forward to helping you learn how to play rugby and hope you enjoy playing in our teams.
We have had some tough choices to make for the festival next week, but have decided to take a squad of 11 - 7 starters and 4 subs.
The starting team for next week will be :
- 9 - David - 10 - Joshua
- 11 - Zach - 12 - Alex
- 13 - Felix Glynn
- 14 - Joseph
- 15 - Isaac
The subs will be :
- Jo
- Charlie
The unlucky players to miss out this time are :
- Felix T - George
For the 5 that haven't been picked for Hastings we will see you the week after at home for coaching before we all visit Horsham the week after that. Remember they've got every chance of being picked for the other festivals this season and those who don't break into the "A" squad will get to play in the "B" festival later in the season. All players will continue to play in mixed teams when we visit or welcome other clubs for friendlies.
The fixture list for the season is on the club website - click here - so please check and let me know if your child is going to be unavailable for our next big event - our home "A" festival on November 6th . Please put this date in your diaries as we will be seeking volunteers for car park and pitch marshall duties ! These festivals can't run without volunteers to help out so all offers gratefully accepted ! I will send out full details, booking forms etc. later in the week for the tour to Bath in April. For now, check out the dates of 13th - 15th April. It would be great to take as full a squad as we can muster for this event. We do need children to be accompanied by either a parent or be with a friend and accompanied by their parent(s).
Fingers crossed for good weather and a great result at Hastings next week. We would like the players there by 9.30 am please - it is likely to be very busy on the roads and into the car park so leave plenty of time. Click here for address details.
Please bring a packed lunch and plenty of drinks - ideally not of the fizzy variety ! Snacks such as fruit are a good idea to keep energy levels up. I wouldn't recommend chocolate or sweets as their effects tend to wear off quickly. Also, please save the burgers and hot dogs etc. for after the event as we found last year the players with bellies full of greasy goodies weren't at their best for their next game ! We will have a gazebo to keep packed lunches, snacks and drinks out of the sun (!)
Thanks, Jeremy
Welcome to the Under 8's for the 2011 / 12 season !
Once again this season we will be playing TAG rugby – the only difference this season being we will be playing limited tags. This means attacking teams have 6 “free” tags when they can pass the ball, on the 7th, the defending team will regain possession.
In Tag Rugby we encourage the skills associated with running, passing, evading and catching. The aim is to establish a base set of skills to enable the children to partake in the spirit of rugby. Our primary aim is to encourage the children to have FUN.
All children are welcome every week. We train between 10am and 12. The only time that we are restricted on numbers is when we attend festivals where we are limited to teams of ten or twelve children. Most festivals are designated as “A” festivals which means we will select a squad based on a number of factors including ability, attendance and attitude. We also host a “B” festival for those players who may have missed out on an “A” festival appearance.
When we host or visit other clubs for friendly fixtures all players will play in teams of mixed ability.
Every year (first few weeks in September), all existing members will need to complete a Membership Form and a new Data Protection Form. New members will also need to complete the RFU registration Form. These can be obtained from Simon Davies, our Membership Secretary or from the club website. There will be a signing up desk manned either outside (weather permitting) or in the clubhouse on the first Sunday (4th September).
If you would like to give rugby a try before committing, just have a word with me and I will let the membership secretary know. It's best to fill out the forms anyway so we are sure we have all relevant details, just hold off on paying the subscription for a couple of weeks.
The Club will provide training for all the children that turn up, however certain playing kit is required to ensure all are protected where possible.
· Gum Shield - essential
· Rugby Boots – essential
· Club shirt – available from the club shop
· Gloves – as the weather gets gloves are often worn, fingerless or fully covered and can be purchased from our club shop. If used in festivals gloves must be fingerless.
· Water – bottles are provided but you may wish your child to have their own.
· Snack – during Festivals it is advisable to bring a bring a snack and drink for your child.
· Following last winter's trends, “snoods” will not be allowed this year !
Finally, we ask that Parents or carers remain at the club for the duration of training sessions to be on hand in case of an emergency and to offer support and encouragement to the children. If you need to leave the pitch-side please let one of the coaches know so we know were to find you. Coaches will not be expecting to be the primary carer for children (other than their own !) without prior agreement.
