NEW VENTURE WITH HARLEQUINS RFC
Crowborough Rugby Football Club start what they hope will be a fruitful and productive venture with Harlequins.
Harlequins are currently riding high at the top of the Aviva Premiership and have been honoured by the choice of Chris Robshaw as captain of England. As a forward looking, community orientated club they are reaching out to junior clubs in the South East with a view to help them develop their coaching skills, to assist in player retention, especially as children are faced with more and more alternatives to rugby as a past-time, but also to enhance their already substantial fan base.
Crowborough is embracing this opportunity with open arms. On April 14th three coach loads of junior & mini players plus coaching staff and parents will go to Harlequins for a 'whole club' coaching course, an opportunity to meet the players before watching Harlequins take on Wasps in a crucial league encounter.
'This is a great opportunity for the members of our youth section to be exposed to top flight coaching techniques, to engage with leading players to see how they have developed through the game but also to experience the big match atmosphere of the Aviva Premiership. The benefit for us is anything that helps our coaching staff improve their capabilities has to be good for Crowborough RFC, but more importantly it is crucial for us, and in fact all junior clubs, to have a strong and growing youth base from which the senior sides can enhanced.' said Graham Callard, Chairman.
This is only the start. Crowborough RFC will be running a Harlequins summer camp during the school summer holidays. This will be open to not only members of Crowborough RFC but all clubs in the region. It is an an exciting mix of youth coaching, fun and interaction with senior Harlequins coaching staff. More details will follow soon.
Crowborough RFC runs teams at all age groups at youth level from 6 to 18 and three senior sides; the 1st XV currently top of London South East 3. It has an active social scene and superb player and spectator facilities.
