CRFC Mini's End the Season on a High

Crowborough Mini's End the Season on a High.

On Sunday the 25th April Crowborough Mini's attended both the Tunbridge Wells `B` Festival (under 8’s and under 9’s) and the Uckfield `A` Festival Under 7’s through to under 12’s.

Stephen Hart, Head Coach for the under 8’s and Mini Section Chair said  “the results these teams produced were excellent and the club is very proud of them all.

The under 9’s won the Bowel (third) at Tunbridge Wells and the Under 8’s where the competition runners up just losing out to Cranbrook in the final.

At the Uckfield Festival Crowborough won three out of the possible six finals.

The Under 7’s

It was third time lucky for the Under 7’s, having narrowly lost out in two previous finals this season, they won the Uckfield Festival with some amazing rugby.  Having come through a tough pool with a draw against Lewes and then winning 3 nail biting contests with Haywards Heath, East Grinstead and Horsham they got through to play Uckfield in the final.  Fantastic pressure when defending and an awesome display of attacking rugby resulted in a 9-6 victory for Crowborough.  This was a superb way to end the season building on the previous weeks 4 straight wins at Westcombe Park.  The Under 7’s have played superbly all season, displaying passing skills way beyond their years and playing rugby that has left the coaches and watching parents feeling immensely proud!

The Under 8’s

Who are the Sussex County Champions, dominate every game they played including the final against Lewes. They played very fluid rugby and were, as normal, devastating in both attack and defence, scoring 41 tries and only conceding 12. The results were, Crowborough vs Stanford 8 – 3, Crowborough vs Haywards Heath 10 – 4, Crowborough vs Eastbourne 7 - 1, Crowborough vs Uckfield 9 - 2 and in the final Crowborough beat Lewes 7 -2. Stephen Hart said “these results are a fantastic end to an amazing season, the under 8’s have gone from strength to strength this year”.

The Under 12's

Won their final festival of mini rugby last Sunday in spectacular form. In the pool they beat a strong Horsham team  by 2 tries to 1. This was followed by a 6 to nil victory over Lewes. The final pool match was against an Essex touring side Stanford, who Crowborough have played and lost to in previous years. Physically Stanford are huge and this was certainly the most physical game the team have played this season. However Crowborough came out on top winning by 1 try to nil. This put the team through to the finals where they met the Weybridge Vandals. At this point the Crowborough boys heads were well and truly up and they dominated the game winning by two tries to nil. Judith Donald, Head Coach, said “this was a fantastic way to end the season and gives the team a real boost before heading into the Sussex A League for junior rugby next season”.
